The dojo has been carefully constructed to be a fully functional and modular environment which can be set up for empty handed kata, kobudo (weapons forms), bogu kumite training and matches. Additionally, nage-waza (throwing techniques) are taught where the students utilize throwing dummies as well as throwing each other safely on designated matted surfaces to prevent injury.
The logo was designed around the center focus of Hanshi Albert O. Geraldi’s vision, Bogu Kumite. The logo was also created into a patch. However, based on the core foundation of the logo only those who have engaged in a bogu kumite match are awarded the dojo patch. If awarded the patch, the patch is to be worn on the left arm only.
Okinawan Tode Kan is translated “Okinawan China-Hand Club” which is a representation of the origination of Kara-te. The kanji originally used to describe Kara-te translated into “Chinese Hand” before the kanji was changed to “Open Hand”. Tode/Tuidi was another pronunciation of those characters in Uchinaguchi (the original Okinawan dialect spoken on the island). The Okinawan masters represented in our lineage were closely tied to the original art of Tode (Shigeru Nakamura, Seikichi Uehara, Seiyu Oyata) and maintained the true life protection techniques and methods of Okinawa.

There is a sporting aspect associated with our system called Bogu Kumite (fight with protective gear). This particular sport allows the practitioner to utilize basic fighting moves (punches, kicks, throws) in a full contact/full power environment (which includes head contact) with no weight classes assigned. This sport was devised by Oyata’s senior instructor Master Shigeru Nakamura as a way to test and unite all Okinawan fighting arts during the 1950s-1970s.
